Perhaps it’s the desperation to get out of the National League which dictates Wrexham fans mood, or perhaps a sense that an opportunity to win the league has slipped away, but if you were take the online mood as an accurate measure of how we feel at the moment, the least you’d say is there’s a vague sense of dissatisfaction.
Online comments aren’t an accurate guide, of course: the body of support is mostly made up of a silent majority at games rather than a loud selection of individuals on social media. The stats suggest that frustration shouldn’t be the main sensation as we head into the play-offs either. I’m not saying we’ve never had it so good, but the figures suggest Wrexham fans haven’t experienced much better than this, week-in, week-out.
Here are some stats going into today’s game that put that into context:
- If we keep a clean sheet we’ll set an outright club record for most clean sheets kept in a season, and have conceded the least we’ve let in at home in the league since 1968, equalling a club record for a season with a full compliment of games (i.e. in the Football League era).
- If we win today we’ll have enjoyed the most home wins in a league season since 1970, one short of the club record.
- If we win today we’ll equal the third highest points total Wrexham have achieved in a season if you adjust the totals to three points for a win We’d equal the totals achieved in our promotion seasons of 1977-8 and 2002-3, and better the 1992-3 promotion total.
- If we draw, it’ll be our highest points total since 2012.
Not bad for a side which changes manager every few months!
