I just stumbled across this, and although it’s straightforward and brief, it does a nice job of illustrating how Wrexham AFC can reach out across generations and create a community.

Victoria C.P. School’s video report on a grave in Wrexham cemetery, just round the corner from the pupils’ classroom, links Bert Foster, who served in World War One, played in our first Football League game, and died in his early 20s in The Turf, to the community efforts of the WST in paying for a tombstone for his unmarked, neglected grave, and then to the Wrexham fans of tomorrow.

Stuart Roberts was the man tasked with bringing community projects to fruition for the WST. His diligence and care in bringing dignity to the resting place of a man whose only link to him was 58 appearances for his hometown club a hundred years ago, exemplifies the links that bind a community together through its football club.

Reaching across the generations and centuries, that’s as powerful a form of community cohesion as you’ll get.
