Phil Parkinson says he’s looking at players who are at the World Cup, and the blanket coverage of the tournament means we’ll have a chance to run the rule over them against high quality opposition. But who is he looking at?

In a tournament of 48 teams and 84,231 matches, it’s tricky to keep tabs on who are realistic targets. Don’t worry: I’ve got you.

The Wrexham World Cup Scouting Notebook will track our realistic targets. It will be updated on the first day of play on each group, with updates on how the selected players performed. I’ll add to a list of players we could be looking at if performances demand it, although it’s unlikely a club with a well developed scouting system would have their heads turned by a good tournament performance: we’ll surely stick to players we’ve been tracking for a while.

The players will be sorted into groups according to how likely we are to be able to make the deal:

Ambitious means we’d do well to get it over the line, but they’re the sort of players who could make a substantial difference to the squad;

Realistic means they would be more likely to be interested in joining us than not, and their clubs are likely to be willing to do a deal

Interesting Profile denotes wild cards. They might be completely unattainable, they might be useless; they might be exactly who we want.

So, get ready to tuck in and enjoy some tasty Wrexham scouting!

The scouting notebook will be available exclusively to all members of the #AskWXM Patreon. Use the link above to join, with tiers starting at just £2.62 a month. That’s less than 10p a day, kids! Snap it up!
