It took 58 seconds for Chris Holroyd to open the scoring on Saturday. Which is quick by his standards, but hardly unusual.

It was the fastest goal Wrexham have scored since October 2017, when we went 1-0 up after 44 sconds against Orient. The scorer? Holroyd of course!

This doesn’t seem to be a coincidence though. Seven of his last nine goals have come in the first 20 minutes of the match, and of his total of fifteen goals fro Wrexham, nine came in the first half hour, ten in the first half.

Strip out the penalties – he’s scored three – and 75% of his goals in open play came in the first half.

We’ve never lost when he’s scored either – he’s scored in eleven matches and our record in those games is won eight, drawn three.

Holroyd makes his 50th Wrexham appearance on Saturday, and the stats are clear: pick Holroyd, score early and don’t lose. Football’s a simple game after all!
