Akil Wright scored the only goal last season when Chesterfield returned to The Racecourse for the first time since October 2007. That match ended in a 4-0 away win, The Spireites best result in North Wales.

Chesterfield have the upper hand in the fixture, winning 51 times to Wrexham’s 38, with 26 draws. At The Racecourse it’s a different story, though, as we’ve won 27 games to Chesterfield’s 15.

In recent years our home record has deteriorated, though: since 1997 we’ve won just 2 of our 8 home matches.

Our biggest home win against The Spireites was also the first time the two sides met! In 1921, during the course of our first season in the Football League, we walloped them 6-1, with both Ted Regan and Billy Cotton scoring hat tricks.

Billy Ashcroft and Karl Connolly have also scored hat tricks against Chesterfield, and they stand at the top of our scorers in this fixture with 8 goals apiece.

The game will also see Paul Rutherford make his 150th Wrexham appearance.
