I had a naive dream of how this weekend could turn out perfectly. It’s not going to happen though: I hope it doesn’t for our rivals either!

The dream went something like this: all the other title contenders had their games called off yet somehow, defying all logic, our match at Lincoln was on. We then go on to win and open up a gap at the top of the table. Okay, we’d have played a couple more games than anyone else, but so what? I’d rather have the points in the bag than games in hand.

The game’s off though, but some of our rivals might be able to creep up on us. Grimsby’s game tonight didn’t take place and Luton won’t be in action this weekend, but Newport are calling on their fans to clear snow off their pitch tomorrow morning while Forest Green and Kidderminster are at the mercy of the north west weather.

In an ideal world they’ll play, lose, and give our league position a little more gloss without us even lifting a boot. The latter two have awkward-looking away games: would it be better for us if they have to come across country for an evening game, or is a tricky game on a frozen pitch tomorrow what the doctor ordered?

I know I’d have liked to have seen us play tomorrow. We’ve got momentum and in those circumstances it’s good to have as many games as possible. Hopefully The Racecourse will be okay for Tuesday. At least Andy Morrell will have a bit more time in his office over the weekend to contact potential transfer targets!
