Victory tomorrow at the SToK Cae Ras for Jenny Sugarman’s team means this wonderful side will be the first ever Wrexham side to win a national championship. The men won the fifth tier title in 2023 and the third tier in 1977. That’s it. We’ve won regional leagues, including the Adran North, of course, but to be national champions? No Wrexham side has done that.

That’s how big this game is.

Of course, we come into it having pulled off one of the most remarkable scorelines a Wrexham side has ever achieved. Swansea City 1 Wrexham 7. Sounds good, doesn’t it? It was a sensational dismantling of one of the giants of Welsh football; it’s hard to grasp the remarkable progress of a club which hasn’t even completed its third season in the top division.

Our 3-1 win at Cardiff was, to be honest, just as impressive. However, City’s response in the next game was genuinely magnificent and teed up this sixth clash of the season between these sides perfectly. There’s a reason City have dominated Welsh football in recent years; they’re very very good, and to dethrone them we’ll have to be outstanding. We’ve got a chance though because, luckily, outstanding is exactly what we are.

The really impressive thing about our progress is that, despite the upgrading of the squad, a pleasingly large contingent of the squad predate this season. Six players remain from the Adran North, six more come from our youth set-up, another six were brought into the club before Jenny Sugarman’s arrival this summer.

From a squad made up of professionals, part-time players and kids; of experienced hands, exciting signings and veterans of the recent amateur days; of internationals and 16 year-olds, we’ve forged a squad capable of achieving something no Wrexham side has ever done in 162 years.
