One swallow doesn’t make a summmer. Two swallows get you feeling a little more optimistic, though.

Back-to-back games in which Wrexham have reminded themselves of the qualities which have stood them in good stead for the past few seasons are no bad thing. There were plenty of promising signs from this match which were even detectable when your only access to it was a look through the DVD of the match.

A goal and two assists from Brett Ormerod, following on from his strong showing against Luton, continued a renaissance in a player whose pre-season injury led into an anonymous start to his season. Andy Bishop scored again, and once more it was a finish which reminded us of what a good penalty area striker he is when he gets decent service. Dave Artell’s presence contributed to an increased stability and another clean sheet, while a midfield featuring Jay Harris has twice as much heart (although you don’t need to be a genius to work that out!). And Theo Bailey-Jones continues to play with eager abandon, a genuine throw-back of an out-and-out winger.

Admittedly, Steve Tomassen’s goal was a new one on me, but with another assist for Neil Ashton and Johnny Hunt getting into a great scoring position again (although he missed the ball completely this time!) the echoes of Friday were uncanny. And that’s exactly what Andy Morrell would want!
