Positives
First clean sheet since Boxing Day. After a shaky start we were very compact when we didn’t have the ball.

Luke Waterfall and Manny Smith’s best game together yet.

An impressive performance by Steve Tomassen, who is looking solid at right back.

kyle-Storer_1Promising debuts from Kyle Storer and Kieron Morris.

The hard work Andy Bishop and Louis Moult put in when we didn’t have the ball, often dispossessing Torquay defenders in their own half or or at least stopping them from getting the ball forward.

The difference Wes York and Morris made when they came on and we switched to 4-4-2.

Andy Coughlin’s crucial 3rd minute save from a one-on-one made a big difference to the shape of the game – if we’d conceded early again this match could have gone the same way as the Dartford and Telford matches.

Negatives
The dreadful 93rd minute offside decision – which players and fans oddly didn’t seem to react to – which prevented York running one-on-one at the keeper after the left back Ives had played him comfortably onside.

The diamond might have given us solidity, but we lacked width until the double substitution.

A lack of creativity as we tried to pass through a crowded centre of the pitch when we were deploying the diamond.

Joe Clarke’s passing led to his withdrawal.

  1. If we’re going to stick with a diamond then Keates will more likely be the point and Storer the back, with Carrington and Jennings either side. We’ll get a midge more width like that, with more chances, and an annoyed Harris!!

  2. […] the closing stages of that game against The Gulls, after we switched to a more attacking formation, saw us open them up at will, ought to be grounds for […]
