Historically, home advantage has been key matches between these sides, which is hardly surprising considering the distance between the clubs. However, we’ve enjoyed the upper hand lately: indeed, if we avoid defeat tonight, we’ll match our longest unbeaten run in this fixture, having gone five games without losing to The Gulls.
In the midst of that run, we enjoyed our biggest ever win over Torquay, when Chris Holroyd scored a hat trick in January 2018 as we swept them aside in front of a noisy band of Magdeburg fans!
Our last match at Torquay was a grim goalless affair, fought out in high winds, but we’re unbeaten in three league games there.
Our most recent win coming when Mark Carrington scored the only goal in December 2015.
Our biggest win at Plainmoor, of course, came in the preceding season as we walloped them 3-0 to secure a 5-1 aggregate win in the semi-final of the FA Trophy.
We’d already won the first leg 2-1.
